At my Maronite Rite Parish a few woman take off their shoes before walking up to receive Holy Communion

Exodus 3.  4 And when the Lord saw that he went forward to see, he called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said: Moses, Moses. And he answered: Here I am. 5 And he said: Come not nigh hither, put off the shoes from thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

I am a Latin Rite Catholic but joined Mary Mother Of The Light Church in Tequesta, Florida during Covid because it was the only Parish (other than the SSPX parish in West Palm Beach) that did not close.

I guess this explains their behavior?
